Campari Group and Bocconi University Establish Harvey Chaplin Chair in Distribution, Channel & Experience Management

Initiative honors the entrepreneurial legacy of Southern Glazer’s co-founder Harvey R. Chaplin and celebrates a shared vision of growth and innovation

Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits (Southern Glazer’s) – the world’s preeminent distributor of beverage alcohol – today announced that Campari Group, in partnership with Bocconi University, has established the Harvey Chaplin Chair in Distribution, Channel & Experience Management in honor of Harvey R. Chaplin, co-founder of Southern Glazer’s and a pioneer in the U.S. beverage alcohol distribution industry.

The new Chair pays tribute to Chaplin’s enduring influence and celebrates the long-standing collaboration between Campari Group and Southern Glazer’s – two industry leaders united by a shared commitment to growth, innovation, and excellence.

“We are deeply honored by this incredible tribute to my father’s legacy,” said Wayne E. Chaplin, President and Chief Executive Officer, Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits. “His values of trust, respect, and commitment to excellence continue to guide our family and our Company every day. This initiative reflects those same ideals and underscores the power of collaboration in advancing our industry.”

The endowed Chair, assigned to Professor Sandro Castaldo, focuses its research activities on marketing – an area of strategic importance shared by Campari Group, Bocconi University, and Southern Glazer’s.

“The Harvey Chaplin Chair in Distribution, Channel & Experience Management consolidates a valuable collaboration between Campari Group and Bocconi University, strengthening the Group’s commitment to education and research on topics that are strategic for businesses,” said Luca Garavoglia, Chairman, Campari Group. “The initiative, which pays tribute to the entrepreneurial vision of Harvey R. Chaplin, highlights operational excellence as a key driver in transforming structural conditions into growth opportunities.”

Founded in Italy in 1860, Campari Group is the sixth-largest player in the global spirits industry, operating in more than 190 countries with 24 production sites and a direct distribution network in 27 nations. Through the establishment of the Harvey Chaplin Chair, Campari Group has become a Strategic Partner of Bocconi University, contributing to its endowment fund – an investment designed to sustain the University’s long-term independence and academic excellence.

“My grandfather’s vision continues to inspire so many of us at Southern Glazer’s and beyond,” said Jennifer Chaplin Tolkin, Executive Vice President, Managing Director, Campari, Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits. “The creation of this Chair not only celebrates his entrepreneurial spirit but also highlights the shared passion for innovation and education that connects our organizations.”
