Marquis Who's Who Announces Joel Thomas Amato as a Top Executive

UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / April 2, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who announces Joel Thomas Amato as a top executive. Mr. Amato is the executive director of the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI).

About Mr. Joel Thomas Amato

Mr. Amato has more than four decades of experience as a boiler technician. His areas of expertise include boiler operation, repairs, safety, and inspection, as well as pressure vessel inspection and pressure relief valve testing. He has used his extensive knowledge and experience to help train future boiler inspectors.

Mr. Amato credits the U.S. Navy and the valuable lessons he learned while serving for his lifelong success. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy with his best friend when they were in high school. Though he had no previous experience, the ship's chief engineer appointed him as a boiler technician. At first, Mr. Amato didn't understand what his duties would entail, but he embraced the challenge. At the age of just 19, he was responsible for the ship's #1 boiler room throughout its Western Pacific cruises to areas like Australia, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, the Philippines and Singapore.

From 1984 to 1989, Mr. Amato served as a Boiler Technician Second Class in the U.S. Navy. For his service, he received the Navy Good Conduct Medal, Enlisted Service Warfare Specialist, Meritorious Unit Accommodations and several letters of commendation.

Putting His Military Experience to Use in His Career

Mr. Amato has effectively utilized the knowledge he gained during his military service in his civilian career. He spent over 20 years as the chief boiler inspector for the state of Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry where he played a pivotal role in developing the state's boiler inspection and engineer licensing programs, becoming the longest-serving individual in that role. In concurrence with his service to the state of Minnesota, Mr. Amato volunteered on numerous NBBI committees, including the board of trustees for 13 years, and worked to promote safety by serving on the National Board Inspection Code main committee.

In his current position as the executive director of NBBI, Mr. Amato supports 62 chief boiler inspectors across the United States and Canada. NBBI is more than a century old and promotes boiler and pressure vessel safety. He manages departmental operations and a $20 million annual budget while overseeing four buildings in Columbus, Ohio, and ensuring that the employees have a comfortable and safe working environment.

In addition to the skills he learned while in the U.S. Navy and the experience he gained while working for the state of Minnesota, Mr. Amato credits the people he currently works with for his ongoing success and aspires to help those around him become successful in their endeavors. He remains active in the field by maintaining memberships to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Boiler Manufacturers Association and Disabled American Veterans.

Looking to the Future

As he focuses on the future, Mr. Amato continues his mission to make the organization's programs functional and profitable. The newest program, the Jurisdictional Reporting System (JRS), requires significant financial investment, effort and time from the organization's staff. He envisions JRS setting the gold standard in boiler and pressure vessel inspection software, with interconnected capabilities that have never been seen before. Through JRS, he plans to lead NBBI in strengthening these industry connections around the world.

Outside of his work, Mr. Amato enjoys home projects and remodeling, fishing, hunting and playing with his children and dog. He strives to purchase a boat and complete the Great Loop journey, which is a 5,000-mile route through interconnected rivers, canals and coastal waterways.
